Preparing to Attend a Wedding 101

Preparing to Attend a Wedding 101

Preparing to attend a wedding takes up time and some effort.

Celebrating the union of two people that love each other is something that I am accustomed to. I have the honor of attending numerous weddings all year round. In the last 3 weeks I have attendant two weddings and today will be my third. Preparing to attend weddings is a repertoire I know well. This summer season started off with people declaring their love for each other. Not a bad way to start the summer if I do say so myself.

Today I am attending a simpler wedding than I am usually accustomed to. This is perfect considering all the other weddings I attend are all about being glamorous and going all out. I could use a break. These events are usually an explosion of everything. Most of them are glamorous with a distinct touch of elegance, as others border on tacky. From the wedding venue to the stunning gowns I get to wear. It is all a synchronization, from the hair, the makeup, the gown, to the entering the location with my perfect boyfriend that all adds up to perfection.

I used to not like weddings, a part of me still doesn’t. I met the love of my life at a wedding so I have lightened up about ceremonious events. I do however adore the part where I get to prepare for a wedding and dress like a princess.
Today’s wedding is a simple gathering by the sea with somewhere under 100 people attending. Where I come from, this is a small wedding.

This is the first wedding I am attending where I will not be wearing a long gown. Since the location is not what my attire is accustomed to, I decided to dress more appropriate for a cocktail event. Still, there is a lot of thought and planning that goes into such an even as a guest. I plan on sharing and showing you how i will be preparing to attend today’s events.

Getting Your Nails Done

I started off by going and getting my nails done. Since this wedding is happening on a Tuesday as the groom and bride desired I considered I have time to have them done today. If it was a full blown wedding I would have had them done yesterday.
I decided to go for the Barbie pink since my dress is a little black piece that works with any nail color except a gold color, since it has silver rhinestones on the back.

Getting your Makeup done

The next step is the makeup. This part I can either have done by a professional or I can apply it myself. Since this is a small gathering and I am a professional beautician I will be applying the makeup myself.
I am a makeup perfectionist. I take pride in what I wear and I try to respect my face and skin as much as possible since it is the first thing people see. When I do apply makeup I have the tendency to create a perfect spot that lets me have enough mobility and light.

The Shoes, The Bag and The Sunglasses

I like getting the shoes out of their box a night before. As if my shoes need to know that soon they will be preparing to attend an event and they should somehow get ready (or I could just be honest and say that I just like seeing them all clean and shiny). The same goes for the bag. I place them together as if they wore some sort of a couple that needed to stick together.
I decided to wear sunglasses. I love this part as i never get to wear sunglasses to the weddings I usually attend. Sunglasses seem to meet every demand my dress could ask for.

The Dress

I usually keep all my cocktail dresses together and all my gowns together as well. I take my dress out at the same time I take the shoes and the bag out because my mother always told me to air them out. It just has stuck with me over the years.
The dress is a little Rachel Roy number that looks like something Audrey Hepburn would have worn, just a tad bit shorter. I decided to go simple. I am very excited, It will be the first time I am wearing this dress. This is something I would never to a wedding but it seems appropriate for today.

The Accessories

I am one of those girls that likes her accessories to be very evident. I know and agree with the statement that less is more but I just love jewelry. I cannot wear the earrings I choose for today at the grocery store!  I consider that every once in a while we should be ourselves and wear that piece that others might think is to much.
I have had this set since my aunt that I love very much and that raised me, got married. I adore the way it shimmers in the light. Since this wedding will start while the sun is still out I love how they will be seen.

Have Fun

The most important part of any event where you spend any amount of time getting ready is to have fun. This is all worthless if you aren’t having a good time. No amount of makeup or bling will make you feel the way people make us feel. Try to find the right people to sit by and enjoy any event.

Life is made out of moments. Moments are fleeting. Make the most of everyday and especially the special days. Tomorrow you won’t get today back.
