As time seems to pass and we get more and wiser, I’ve noticed something else about people and myself, we get more and more creative. Our creative side has been at its peak this generation, allowing for more imaginative and fresh ideas. We also live in a world where we are permitted to be creative, this has not always been so. We are truly lucky.
The venue you choose as a couple can be a special place that has meaning for the two of you. Maybe you meet at the cotton machine at the park, maybe it was at an art gallery and so on. Why not make your day about your story and how you came to stand on your day at the altar! Show your guest where you fell in love.
Not so long ago, couples did not have the options nor the liberty we have today. Can you imagine your great-grandmother having a destination wedding? I am more than sure that they couldn’t even comprehend a wedding that did not take place in the right house of worship, let alone on a beach! But he we are lucky and blessed to be able to choose any unusual destination we might want to tie the knot!
We can express the way we feel in any way we choose! Take for example if you and your significant other met, or had your first date in a place that might be able to accommodate the people you wish to have with you on your special day, you could arrange to have your reception at that exact spot. In a fast-moving world, and it is moving very fast, it is so pleasing to see people that find true love sit and think of the perfect unusual way to show their unique love for each other! This just goes to show that no matter at what speed we are going, we still slow down for the important things!
In 2018 there is no reason to choose something common when you can choose something enchantingly unusual and magical. Why should one go for the restaurant just because everyone else has since the beginning of time? Do not get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with choosing a classic restaurant for a venue, weddings always serve food! This is about something else! This is about choosing something your heart might have dreamt of but you thought it not appropriate to proceed with. Maybe what others would think have kept you away from making a certain choice.
Here are some not so usual wedding venues to help you have a wedding that your heart always wanted. You usually only get one wedding, make it perfect with an unusual location that you and your loved ones will cherish forever.
The Underwater Wedding
As “underwater” might not refer to a venue exactly, the aquarium does. You can have the ceremony under water with waterproof signs of course. Your guests can view everything from the pools windows while you are deep in the water. Now that is taking your relationship to a “deeper level”.
La Belle Epoque Wedding
There are numerous chateaus that are perfect for a party like they use to once hold in the stories that we use to read about during the belle epoque. You can give your guests the royal treatment.
Find your perfect Chateau and book your event. Couples can usually book a chateau hall for the feast and the garden if the weather agrees for the reception. Some castles offer rooms where you can accommodate your guests. For all those who love everything French, this is the perfect way to have your wedding. The surrounding locations are usually a dream and offers picturesque views of the villages. For those who love Belle Epoque, this is the perfect unusual venue.
The Theater Wedding
Most of the greatest movies that we get to see are at a theater. Why not consider your wedding just as a movie? If you’re into the performing arts, consider saying your vows on stage. Theaters almost always offer refreshments during productions, including adult beverages, so most will already have a liquor license and the ability for a bar setup. Love the theater but want to get married outside? Look for amphitheaters in your area. Just keep in mind that summer is usually a big time for events, so you may want to consider early summer or late fall.
An Adventurous Theme Park Wedding
If you love theme parks, as most of us do, then why not? If Roller coasters are a passion of yours then an amusement park is the way to go. You will most definitely have one of the most memorable weddings your guest will have ever attended. You can even make it an extended wedding weekend at the amusement park have some cotton candy with your guest and take some amazing photos! Just keep in mind that peak season for theme parks usually runs from January through April and they usually schedule weddings and receptions before or after normal operating hours, so plan accordingly. You could transform your wedding into a two-day event; a wedding and a carnival! Imagine the photos of you and you’re significant other taken on a ferris wheel.
The Antique store wedding
This is a perfect idea for those that spend their weekends antiquing and your house or apartment is filled with flea market finds, then you might be sold pretty easily on the idea of an antique store wedding. If you consider for a minute all that eclectic décor you’d buy or rent anyway is built right in. Mix and match everything on your tables, from the centerpiece vessels to the chargers and glassware, to fit the laid-back vintage vibe.
The Boat Wedding
If you have a love for the sea and for sailboats, yachts riverboats or ferry’s you should say yes while you set sail! Your guests will love it, and your photographer will be thankful for the changing backgrounds throughout the day. Remember, marrying on the water doesn’t necessarily mean on the high seas. For example, some historic ships or out-of-commission military vessels are permanently docked but open for weddings, if still is more your speed.
Historical Library
If you are the type of couple that loves the library and have a passion for books, or one of you is a writer then set your eyes on the historical library. It would be a sophisticated soiree considering that the spaces are usually very sprawling and filled with history and beautiful architectural details. You could have part of your story be written right there next to the classics. You can even make it a theme wedding. A Gatsby inspired art deco affair might be to die for.
Now if you happen to be from New York City there is always the New York City Public Library that is one of the most beautiful buildings in our fair city.
The Botanical Garden
Well for starters you would not have to spend your savings on floral arrangements! We are all aware of the prices flowers have reached nowadays for a beautiful wedding décor. You would be surrounded by flowers, many gardens have pretty fountains, tree-lined paths, perfectly manicured flower beds or an ethereal greenhouse where you can have both the ceremony and reception. And with high glass ceilings and tons of natural greenery, you won’t need to bring in many decorations.
The Brooklyn Botanical Garden offers spectacular weddings with indescribable arrangements.
The Museum Wedding
While art museums are a classic choice, there are many more conservatory options worth entertaining. Natural history museums, city museums, air and space museums, and even children’s museums often have spaces to rent after-hours. You’ll have exhibits as your backdrop (like a historic propeller plane or awesome dinosaur skeleton). Take advantage of built-in guest entertainment and ask if the staff can provide guided tours or open certain exhibits for people to explore during cocktail hour.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art, aka The Met has been my favorite spot in NYC since i was a freshman in high school, i use to go everyday and spend hours there.
There are moments in our lives that we seem to always refer to in a magical way that resonates throughout time and throughout the world. No matter what the culture, no matter what geographical location you might have there are weddings happening everywhere, people committing to each other. This has been happening throughout the years, even in times of war people have always had weddings.
Nowadays we are lucky enough to be able to share and show our love towards each other in so many ways, in so many places and in front of all those we love.
